Essential Job Functions

  1. Maintain a positive learning environment and respond to the individual needs of the students.
  2. Implement effective lessons in the absence of the regular instructor.
  3. Ensure that district policies are observed during all activities.
  4. Create a safe classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
  5. Keep all children in the classroom under supervision at all times.
  6. Be familiar with fire exits, fire drill procedures, severe storm and tornado warning procedures.  Review notes for the day, take attendance and follow the lesson plans of the teacher.
  7. Maintain confidentiality as defined by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  8. Demonstrate the ability to adapt to circumstances.  Exhibit good judgement and use appropriate language or behavior while on assignment.
  9. Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations.
  10. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  11. Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
  12. Leave detailed notes for teacher on any issues experienced during the day.
  13. Other duties as assigned by the Principal.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; other specialized and adaptive equipment used by students
Posture: Frequent standing; kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
Motion: Frequent walking and reaching
Lifting: Frequent light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); Occasional heavy lifting (45 pounds or over) and positioning or students with physical disabilities, controlling behavior through physical restraint, assisting non-ambulatory students, and lifting and moving adaptive and other classroom equipment
Environment: Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise; exposure to biological hazards (bacteria, communicable diseases)
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
